Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer and the most common cancer in humans.

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of skin cancer and is relatively easy to treat compared to squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. Because it spreads slowly, it is usually diagnosed in adults.

The causes of basal cell carcinoma are as follows:

•The most important cause that seems to create the right “soil” for the development of basal cell carcinoma is long-term exposure to sunlight.

• Tanning techniques (tanning beds & solarium) also create very poor prognoses for the development of basal cell carcinoma.

•Another factor is exposure to ionizing radiation from previous radiotherapy (e.g. X-rays).

•Chronic exposure to chemicals (e.g. arsenic) is another factor that can contribute to the appearance of carcinoma.

•Open wounds that do not heal for a long time, complications from scars, (chronic) skin lesions (actinic keratoses, lichen planus, etc.) and diseases (e.g. lupus, psoriasis, etc.), and even infections, are among the factors that can be a “source” of basal cell carcinoma development.

Prevention and early diagnosis of skin tumors are crucial for effective treatment. In the clinic, a complete clinical and dermoscopic examination of suspicious lesions is performed, as well as their appropriate treatment when required. Regular monitoring helps protect skin health.
